Helping the Innocent: Free Medical Health Insurance

Free medical health insurance plans are cropping up in state after state as the growing issue of children growing up without health insurance puts them at risk. When parents do not have health insurance for their children, they often do not take them to the doctor as often which puts them at risk of getting a serious illness that could have been prevented through a regular doctor’s check up. Free health insurance coverage is a tremendous help to families who have to provide their own health insurance because they work a job that does not offer those benefits or they are self employed. For a long time, families that did not qualify for Medicaid but could not afford health insurance premiums were left without options. Today, there are free medical health insurance plans in almost every state so that families can obtain coverage for their children at little to no cost.

Eligibility

Each state has its own requirements as to the eligibility of the children and families for these plans. There are some common factors such as the child is no longer eligible for the plan once he turns eighteen years of age. In addition, the family must make a certain amount of money each month in order to be eligible. If the family income is under one hundred fifty percent of the Federal Poverty level, then the family would be eligible for Medicaid in most states, which would give the children free medical health insurance. If the family made more than one hundred fifty percent and below two hundred percent, the state used to do nothing to help them out with their children’s health insurance. Today, those families who are struggling in this bracket of income to get by can obtain help from the state through free medical health insurance coverage for their children.

The family should go to their state’s Department of Health and Human Services and find out if the state has such a program. Often it will be found with the Medicaid benefits in that state. Most states will provide the application for the program online so the individual can download it and the checklists so that he can begin to fill it out and gather the necessary documentation. Once the application and documentation has been filled out and turned in for processing, the individual must await approval. If approved, sometimes the doctor’s bills that were gained during the approval time will be covered by the plan and the individual will be reimbursed.
